
Lauren Martinez is from Phoenix, Arizona. She graduated from Smith College, in Northampton, MA. In college she majored in Economics and minored in Exercise and Sports Studies. Currently she is a teacher at Maryland Elementary School, and is the assistant varsity volleyball coach at Cortez High School. She is on the board for a nonprofit organization called WomanStory, Inc. which helps teach girls and women about empowerment.
She has been playing volleyball for over 10 years. She played varsity volleyball all four years for Cortez High School, where they made an appearance in the state tournament for 3 years and won the Skyline Region 4A conference two years in a row. Awards she received in high school included: Dr. Voie Stuart Chase Coy Scholar Athlete Award from 2003-2007, Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Award, Rotary Youth Leadership Award, Skyline Region 4A Conference 2nd team, and 1st team, and Skyline Region 4A Conference scholar athlete award. She also played softball for 3 years and 1 year of tennis for Cortez during her high school career.
At Smith College, she played volleyball and softball. Lauren was a captain for softball, and for volleyball their starting setter for all four years at Smith. She was awarded to the Seven Sisters All Tournament Team and Johnson Wales All Tournament Team for volleyball.
