Each year, for the past 10 years, Club Arrowhead has sent at least one, if not more teams to USAV Junior Olympics Volleyball Nationals. We have just finished up our season with our
14 National Rage team competing in Reno, NV, in the "National" division of Junior Olympics. Our Rage team is coached by Debbie Martin, Maegann Kilgore, Laura Khailany, and Peggy Heim. Rage went into the tournament seeded 43rd and came out 31st. All matches, except 2, went to three games with the score's always ending with a two point win or loss in the third set. Some of the scores were as high as 31-29. There was great talent all over the Sparks Convention Center and our girls definitely proved themselves to be worthy of being there. The majority of the Rage team has been playing together since they were 11 years old. This team has a bright future ahead of them and will continue to be a top threat to other Az Region teams fighting for that chance at Nationals.
We also had 10 teams competing in the Volleyball-Festival held in our own back yard at the Phoenix Convention Center. One of the largest volleyball tournaments around with 4 to 5 days of playing solid matches. A small recap of a long week was as follows:
Starting with our 11 Regional Red Hots. Their first game was against the number one team in the whole tournament, Puerto Rico. Though that first game resulted in a loss, that didn't stop the Red Hots from moving forward with several wins after that. Their second loss was to our own 12 National Inferno team. All other matches the Red Hots took care of. Though they were the only 10 and 11 year old team, they did so well they finished in the top bracket of the tournament coming in 14th place.
Our 12 National Inferno team went undefeated up until the 3 day of play. Inferno had heads turning with great play taking place on their courts. They played teams that were very well respected and took matches and games on them. They had some real nail-biters and parents pacing with heart palputations. Inferno 12's ending up placing 8th in the top bracket as well. There were a total of 44 teams in the 12's division. What an incredible finish for both these teams of young ladies! We can only imagine were these teams will be by the time they hit high school.

Our 13 National Sheroes team was undefeated, including defeating the top Puerto Rico team. Parents, players, and coaches, could not come off their volleyball high after that match, even when the match end at 9:30 p.m. the 3rd day of the tournament. Sheroes handled each team up until the famous Puerto Rico match. The Sheroes ended up taking 11th out of the whole tournament with that Puerto Rico team finishing 1st.
Our 14's Regional Cyclones team represented Club Arrowhead in the 14's division. The dominators had a slow start the first day, but picked it up each day after and took 3rd in the "Winner Commendation division."
The dominators were a mixture of several teams that were selected to represent Club Arrowhead at the Festival. They represented us very well.
3 of our 15's team participate in the Festival. Our 15 National team, For Reals, won the Bronze division, beating Hawaii. Their coach, Natalie Montez, said "it was such a great match and either team could have won, but we pulled it off. The girls loved it so much that they stayed after and talked with Hawaii's team and exchange phone number's and facebook contacts."
Our 15's Regional Toxic was a combination of girls from Club Arrowhead teams along with some new comers to Club Arrowhead. Though their practice time together before the tournament was not nearly enough time together, they pulled off some great playing. They pull out as the champions of the "Winner Contest Division."
Our 15 Regional Incredible team start off playing top ranked teams in the tournament. They gave those teams a run for their money. They two were a team put together for the post season with a couple of girls that were only 13 years old. The Incredible place 1st in the "Winner Century Division."
For the 16's division, we were represented by our 16 National - Sparta and or 16-2 MOB. Probably one of the funniest thing that happen at Festival was not on the court but was at opening ceremonies. Each team was introduced by Club, the team name, and then division. Well, the talk of the town after opening ceremonies was "Can you believe a team came all the way from Greece?!" There wasn't ever a team from Greece. It was our 16's Sparta, dressed as Greek's and thought they would be funny and tell the MC that they were from Greece. (Even our own staff and parents were asking about that team from Greece!)
From there on out, they were known as the team from Greece. Needless to say, both 16's teams played tough matches and did incredibly well. 16 - Sparta finished 7th in the silver division/ 23rd out of 127 teams and 16 - MOB placed 5th in the Winner Contest Division/ 49th out of 127 teams.
To finish out our teams at the Volleyball Festival was our 17's - Team Awesome. They worked together as a team and held their own. They finished 3rd in the "Winner Capital Division."
This is just a small portion of our great family at Club Arrowhead. It is truly an honor to have such great families, from our community, be such a big part of our life. We are blessed and grateful. We look forward to our upcoming boy's in August and for our girls season to start back up in November.
